No. 96 Deep Ecology with Sophie Strand

  • In this incredibly interesting and mind opening discussion, Sophie shares about Deep Ecology, smell, touch and nature. Her perspective on spirituality and humanity in nature answered a lot of questions about our longing to be in certain places and also created even more questions.

  • Sophie had the most interesting perspective on the sense of smell and how valuable and intimately connected to our memories and our lives but we are disconnected from it's potent magic. So many experiences, stories (and smells) are discussed and shared with a new and refreshing perspective.

  • Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. Her first book of essays The Flowering Wand: Lunar Kings, Lichenized Lovers, Transpecies Magicians, and Rhizomatic Harpists Heal the Masculine is forthcoming in 2022 from Inner Traditions

I think it’s about reminding yourself to question dominant paradigms always. Whenever you hear a story, ask yourself, is this a story where human desires are centered?

Often times people say ‘The Earth is dying’. I wanna say: The Earth is changing and responding to us, but to say the earth is dying is perhaps a little anthropocentric. Human beings are creating a situation where our species will die, the Earth will still be here albeit, very changed.
